First video on this channel - seemed fitting. The first of 3 videos honouring Harry Nilsson. Nilsson is probably best known for two songs Everybody's Talkin' and Without You - neither of which he wrote for himself! He was a great singer, but also wrote a lot of fine songs before he left this world in 1994. He seems a little underrated as a songwriter, so I chose him as a starting point. This is from his album 'Aerial Ballet' (1968), one of his greatest albums in my opinion. The song is also famous in a version by Aimee Mann, from the movie Magnolia . • I love the lyrics, and how the music seems to fit the words perfectly. The chord progression in the verses is very 'lonely' somehow, mostly kept in E minor, and only a slight touch of major key sneaks in, in the chorus, but it's over before you can spell melancholy.
