Please feel free to consider this a love letter to Dolly Parton. #CountryMusic #FolkMusic • It's been two years and so much has changed in Makes+Music land. To get things started this year - I thought I'd show you this hippie ensemble I put together, very much inspired by the late-60s/early-70s music festival vibe. • The skirt is made from 2 curtain panels that I found in a thrift store for $3 - they are hand-printed block print cotton from India. Truly a treasure. I will love this skirt forever. Because it's the second month of the year, so I owe you 2 videos, please go watch this BONUS video about hippie fashion and 70s culture - • Video - unlike the music video though, the bonus video is not family friendly, just FYI. • The blouse is a vintage pattern of unknown origins, as I have had it forever. I used some sand-washed rayon that I had in my stash, leftover from a tunic I made my son. I crocheted the cloak 2+ years ago, using Lion Brand Yarn and Annies Attic pattern and this is the first time I've photographed it. Whoops! The boots are vintage Zodiacs I found on Etsy. Love 'em. Shop is: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OldLangFinds • Vocals, 2 guitar tracks, 1 ukulele track, 2 Irish whistle tracks, 1 bodhran track, and 1 tambo track in this recording. I arranged it, played all the instruments and did all the voicework. Because I'm all I've got. LOL. Please reach out if you are a better instrumentalist than me to collab - I am appropriately humble about my instrumentation and would love it. Haha. • I chose one of my very favorite Dolly Parton songs, Wildflowers, recorded with Emmy Lou Harris Linda Ronstadt in the 80s in their group called Trio. Here is them singing The Sweetest Gift: • Dolly Parton Linda Ronstadt Emmylou H... Dolly has been ever-present in my life, since I was wee her actions over the last couple of years have been inspiring. Love her so very very much. • I am very much a beginner in music production. #RoastMe (or be nice - either way!) But I finally have put together a little music studio and I plan to keep learning! I will be re-recording the first four songs I put up on this channel and, as they get made, I will replace the old videos (which I've taken down) with better quality versions of the songs. I want to do this for quality purposes and because, as you'll notice, I need to practice studio production. This is my very first music video! So many things I want to do better in the future - and I'm sure I'll look back on this first video in a year and laugh. Still so proud of getting it made though. Never stop learning, folks. • I have lots of fun ideas for this year, so stay tuned! • Be good humans I'll see you again soon! ~m
