Many animal species are fed freshly cut branches with leaves, soft shoots, and flowers, called browse. Browse is closest to (and in many cases, exactly the same as) what animals would forage for in the wild. Animal Care staff locate, cut, collect, wash, and feed browse to the animals. The Mediterranean climate of Southern California allows many of the plants that the animals prefer to be locally grown rather than shipped in.
