Oh, you've never heard of Alcahest? • ■ Patreon ( / josiaheverhart ) • ■ Twitter ( / josiaheverhart ) • ■ Bandcamp (https://JosiahEverhart.bandcamp.com) • ■ Facebook ( / josiaheverhart ) • It seems not many people HAVE heard of Alcahest. It's a Japan-only SNES/Super Famicom game by HAL Laboratory that came out in '93. Mr. Satoru Iwata worked on it as a programmer, I believe. It's a top-down action RPG sort of like Zelda. I haven't spent much time playing the game itself, but have listened to the soundtrack many times. • I had no idea it existed until a couple years ago when I was looking up Jun Ishikawa (the main composer for the Kirby games) and saw that Alcahest was one of his lesser known works. I went and checked out the soundtrack and it blew me away. Quite the hidden gem. There are a bunch of really good tracks in it and you can definitely hear the Kirby in them, but they're more on the serious side. It's really interesting to hear a different side of Mr. Ishikawa's work. If you're into Kirby music, I bet you'll dig it. Here's a playlist of the OST if you want to check it out for yourself: • • Відео • It was tough choosing just one to cover so I might return to this OST in the future. I really like Friends and the Castle Theme, among many others. I looked around YouTube and couldn't find an instrumental cover of any of the music at all! Just a couple of straight remixes. • I know this video is probably going to tank in views since this game is so obscure, but I like to give unknown VGM like this a chance to be heard by more people. I wish I could do a ton more lesser-known VG tracks, but my channel would grow even more slowly if I did, haha. When/if I have a bigger audience I'll do them more often. • • • • Composed by Jun Ishikawa and arranged by me.
