Gene Regulation

Here we'll be looking at the first level of gene expression regulation in eukaryotes, which is before transcription. The principle of this stage is to switch genes on or off, and this is decided by whether or not the RNA polymerase is allowed to bind to the gene for transcription to happen. This is dependent on the state of the chromatin which is altered by histone modification - if the histones are less positively charged (ie. more negative), the DNA will become less tightly wound around it, allowing the gene to become accessible to the RNA polymerase for transcription. • Please subscribe for more content and comment below to let me know what you think! :) • Facebook: BioRach - A-level Biology Online •   / biorachproject   • Twitter: @BioRachProject • https://twitter.com/BioRachProject?la... • Background music: • Infinite Perspective by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) • Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-... • Artist: http://incompetech.com/
