Apologies for that single strand of cat hair that sat on the spacebar for the whole video. • This is a comparison between vintage mx blacks (1984-1995) and retooled hyperglides. It's a pretty controversial topic, as many people say that vints are identical to retools but that they have been broken in. However I got my hands on NOS (new old stock) vints, which are basically brand new and have never been used, giving a very accurate comparison between unused hyperglides. I'm personally a big fan of vints, and was surprised myself with how similar they are to hyperglides. I always felt like the hyperglides had a missing element that made them sound thin to me. Comparing singular switches is not the most accurate way to compare sound, as in a real typing test you will have a lot of variance. • For more information about vints check out my guide to vints: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10... • TLDW: • Vints can be smoother or scratchier than hyperglides • You can identify vints by the top housing latch shape • Vints are more consistent and quieter sounding • Differences are extremely small • Break in your vints • Timestamps: • 0:19 externals • 1:33 internals • 3:45 stock sound test • 4:04 thoughts on stock sound • 5:41 l/f/ss sound test • 6:03 spacebar sound test • 6:42 thoughts on spacebar sound • 7:55 thoughts on l/f/ss sound • 10:38 scratchy vint sound test • 10:50 me rambling about vints • 12:55 broken in and polished vint sound test • Board: Kalam Unikorn • Keycaps: GMK WoB • Plate: Alu • Oring: 55a graveshift • Dampening: Single piece of printer paper to protect case • Switch mods: • light coat 205g0 on stem, avoiding bottom out area • 18mm 60g geon single stage springs • deskey films • lubed the bottom housing leaf • I am selling vints and offering break in services.
