Woodturning an Afrormosia Platter

This is a difficult wood. Dense and dusty, it made my traditional bowl gouge run and hide. I had to break out the carbide tipped tool, something I rarely do. • Afrormosia is a rare wood that I'd never heard of until I visited a local Indiana wood vendor and saw it sitting on a shelf. Just the end grain was visible, and I knew I had to turn it. • It was kiln dried and measured 9% moisture content, which is pretty stable for central Indiana. But by the crazy amount of dust it threw around my shop, you'd think it was at 1%... More dusty than padauk...and padauk is super dusty! • Spelled Afrormosia or Afromosia, and sometimes called African Teak, although it isn't teak at all, this wood is highly durable, and incredibly beautiful! • Thank you for watching, and I hope if you haven't subscribed that you'll do so! It's absolutely free and it helps me out. • I used and show Ack's products in this video because I like their products very much. I'm not sponsored. • My email is [email protected] • My postal address is • Rod Humphrey • PO Box 159 • Chesterfield, IN 46017 • My Etsy store is here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWo...
