Once you obtain Skyhold, you'll be able to choose a specialization after a few quests. As a Mage you can choose to become a Rift Mage, Necromancer, or as shown in this video, a Knight-Enchanter. • These specialization quests don't really tell you what to do exactly. This video will show you how to complete the Way of the Knight-Enchanter quest to become a Knight-Enchanter. • Aqcuire writing on Knight-Enchanter methods: This is found in Vivienne's room in Skyhold. (If you didn't recruit Vivienne, go to Val Royeaux. There's a merchant there that sells books, including this one.) • Wisp Essence: In the Fallow Mire are 3 locations where you can find a Pure Wisp enemy that drops a Wisp Essence once killed. • Lazurite: In the Western Approach are 2 mines close to the first camp where you can find Lazurite. If you can't find any or picked them all up, leave the area and return. There are more locations in this area where you can find some.
