The twin bell towers of the Cathedral of Our Lady in Paris (France) have ten bells, tuned to the diatonic scale of F sharp major, most of them cast new in 2012, by the Cornille-Havard and Royal Eijsbouts foundries, except for the very famous Emmanuel bell from 1685, the only bell to have survived destruction during the French Revolution. In this video, the new bells ring for Mass, before the almost total destruction of the cathedral by a terrible fire on 15 April 2019. • Notre Dame Cathedral is the symbol of France in the world, the heart of Christianity and one of the most visited monuments in the city and a symbol of French civilisation, once at the forefront of defending the true Christian faith. The city became the capital of the kingdom under Philip I. The cathedral was completed in 1250 in full Gothic style, one of the greatest masterpieces in all of human history. King Louis XIV of France fulfilled a vow made by his father by building the majestic new high altar in Baroque style. During the French Revolution, the church was devastated, risking demolition several times. On 2 December 1804, Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of the French in this church, during a Mass celebrated by Pope Pius VII. In 1769, the cathedral had as many as twenty bells, all of which were destroyed between 1791 and 1792 except for the Emmanuel, the only original bell in the complex that remains today and the big bell of the new concert cast in 2013. The cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The main church in Paris and France suffered severe damage during the fire on 15 April 2019. • #bells #church #catholic #catholicchurch #bell #notredame #france #paris
