Throughout the Second World War, there were many high ranking members of the SS who were complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity. One of the lesser known members of the SS was Walter Schmitt a man who was a close friend of Heinrich Himmler the Head of the SS, and he was also the Head of the SS Personnel Office. He was a man who was very senior and was a powerful administrator in the shadows during World War 2. But his actions resulted in the slaughter of thousands. • Schmitt was also an inspector inside of the concentration camps and he made sure that sites such as Auschwitz, Mauthausen and others were ruthlessly efficient in their killing process.
