In this video, we discuss the reasons why rain water is or is not safe for drinking. • 1. Contaminants. • As much as rain water may be safe to drink, it can be easily contaminated with metals and other chemicals during the collection process. • Rain water collected in barrels is also not safe for drinking because these barrels do not have a disinfectant system or filtration system. • 2. Bacteria and viruses. • It could also get contaminated with parasites, bacteria such as E.Coli that could cause serious digestive issues and viruses especially in highly polluted areas and this could be a health hazard when drunk. • 3. Metals and other roofing material. • Some material that are used in roofing and gutters such as asbestos, copper and lead could cause serious health complications when ingested. • Asbestos roofing material has been linked to cancer known as asbestos cancer or mesothelioma that affects the lining of the lungs. • Music attribution: www.bensound.com • This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License.
