In Nnenna Okore's native language, Igbo, Mbembe means shadow. In this video, Okore discusses her piece Mbembe and its commentary on indiscriminant waste in consumer societies. • For Mbembe, Okore recycled and transformed used plastic bags into a large, hanging installation that emphasizes the pervasive presence and looming shadow of plastic bags in contemporary culture. Mbembe was featured in the Tang Museum exhibition Environment and Object - Recent African Art (2011). http://tang.skidmore.edu/index.php/po... • • CREDITS | Producer/Camera/Editor: Vickie Riley.
