Zhangjiajie is a city and a national park in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, China. It is renowned for its breathtaking landscape of towering sandstone pillars, deep ravines, and dense forests. It gained worldwide fame for inspiring the Hallelujah Mountains, in the movie “Avatar”. It is actually a part of the much larger Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. • James Cameron, the director of the 2009 film Avatar, was inspired by the site's breathtaking scenery and brought it newfound attention.
