Photometric measurement data is used to simulate real-world luminaires for lighting design and architecture. Interactivity is essential in these workflows, but the real-time shading of photometric area lights is limited. Typically, far-field photometric measurements are used that simplify luminaires to point lights. For rendering, this emission is defined over the luminaire area, to get soft shadows and a basic approximation of the near-field. The goal is to achieve real-time performance, with a minimal difference to offline solutions, and receive plausible intensity values. • • In our approach, we combine fixed samples at the corners with one dynamic closest point sample and perform a cubature based on triangulation to approximate the illumination. Our approach works as a plausible approximation in various real lighting design scenarios where the emitting polygon is modeled together with the luminaire geometry. • • Find our demo app at https://rtappl.vrvis.at
