First we’ll look at combustion and how it leads to the usage of alcohols as fuels. Then, we’ll look at the oxidation reaction – more specifically of primary and secondary alcohols whereas tertiary alcohols are resistant to oxidation. Notably primary alcohols can be oxidized to aldehydes or carboxylic acids while secondary alcohols to ketone. Finally, we’ll look at the ways of testing our alcohols to identify their classes and solve an exam style question.
