This week we are finding out about the story of Tyneham, a Dorset village which was vacated in the Second World War and has been abandoned ever since. We discover the personal histories of the families that lived there, why why had to leave, and what is happening to the village now. • Tyneham was evacuated by order of the Ministry of Defence in 1943, just before Christmas, in order to become land used for training. To this day, the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Gunnery School still operates on land nearby, and ramblers in this area of Purbeck are instructed to stick to the paths because of the risk of unexploded shells in the undergrowth. • We're Stephen and Claire.
