Phillip Sear plays a thoughtful short piece by the British pianist and composer York Bowen (1884–1961). • ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • #6 from 'Silhouettes - 7 Morceaux Mignons for Piano', Op. 2 (published 1915) • -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • York Bowen's music is enjoying something of a renaissance, and he needs little introduction from me. You can find out much more about the composer's life and work here: http://www.yorkbowen.co.uk/index.htm . This piece comes from a set first published in 1915, but with an opus number that would suggest they were written at least ten years earlier. My suspicion (and someone will know the answer) is that Bowen used the early opus number to replace or revise an earlier work, because the style of the pieces suggest that they would be unlikely to have been written before 1910. Indeed, the set is dedicated to a pupil, Imogene Hawkins (1893-1970) who became a prominent Bristol pianist. Bowen did not become a professor at the Royal Academy of Music until aroun 1909 which again points to the work being written - or at least revised - after 1910. • Thumbnail photo from Piqsels ( t.ly/CSo5 ). • ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear • http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] • WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 )
