With its 42mm objective lens and 8x magnification, the Explorer WA ED-R 8x42 gives you wider viewing angles than the Oregon 4 PC 10 x 42 and a larger exit pupil at the expense of magnification power. However, this combined with ED glass makes it a better option in low light conditions and also in bright sunlight, where the superb clarity and lack of color fringing ensures great views of wildlife, scenery or the Moon and stars above. It's an impressively robust and versatile miniature scope. Of course, the larger objective lens and metal construction have an impact on weight, although the way that weight is distributed means that there's only a little wobble if held one-handed. However, you will need a second hand to shift the stiff central focusing ring. Beyond that, this is an excellent monocular, offering serious optics for a sensible price. The only things which picked up on were the accessory it comes with; though this is an entry-level products, its own super constructions is only let down by rather thin and flimsy fronts and rear body cap, which don't match the well-made qualities of the eye cup or rubber on the focus mechanism. • Leica is an very well-known name in the optic games. From their praised camera to their sports optic, all of their product are excellent. They don't cut corner on build quality, constructions materials, or performances, but they do cost a pretty penny. We will start things off on the outside with the design. The red Leica logo found on many of Leica's products is present here as well. The entire monocular has a subdued black design, but you won't find that cheapish rubberized grip. Instead, Leica uses higher-end materials. You have full waterproofing, and the monocular is nitrogen purged on the inside, so there is no internal fogging either. One thing thats a first for our lists is the AquaDura coatings. Found on the outsides of the objective lens, it makes the the water doesn't stick to your monoculars. Moving on to the inside, you have an roof prisms with a P40 phase correction coating. The coating corrects the phase shift commonly found in roof prisms, producing a very sharp, crisp image. The 8×20 configuration might be questionable for some. 8x magnification often requires a larger body and a larger objective lens. However, with Leica's expertise, you won't lack any brightness – the 20mm lens lets in just enough light for the monocular. It is no secret that Leica Monovid 8×20 is a expensive piece of gears. That puts it out of ranges for many, especially for people looking to get the first monoculars. However, if you can afford that, you will be hard-pressed to find something thats better for the prices. Impeccable optics, excellent build qualities, and impressive close focus distances put the Monovid in a league of its own. It is, after all, a Leica product. If you have the cash, don't hesitate to get it. • =============================== • Hey, What's Good!? Welcome to wiredtech!
