We meet the owners of Amy's Baking Company in Scottsdale Arizona couple Samy and Amy. They are having issues with people leaving negative reviews on Yelp. The issue being Amy feels she needs to respond to every negative comment countering it with even more negativity. They reach out to Kitchen Nightmares for help to confirm their food is perfect, meaning Yelpers are conspiring to run the couple out of business. The filming crew visits the restaurant to make an audition tape. Once accepted on the show, the production crew set up in the restaurant the night before Chef Gordon Ramsay is set to arrive. We watch the disaster of an evening take place as food is slow to leave the kitchen and the owners lose any cool they ever had on multiple customers. Chef Ramsay shows up the next day and tries the food before telling the couple he would be returning that evening to observe dinner service. Chef Ramsay tries suggesting ways to improve Amy's cooking but she doesn't want to hear it. Gordon finds out that the servers do not get to keep any tips, they all go to the owners. Amy fires one of their servers for giving her attitude, overreacting to the situation, which is how she deals with anything. The next day Ramsay meets with a couple ex employees of the restaurant to get insight on how the business has been running for the last few years. Once he returns to the restaurant Gordon and the couple decide to call it quits. He doesn't think that they would take his advice if they were to go forward with the new menu and renovations because they can't take criticism. We watch how the episode effected the restaurant as they become minor local celebrities. They hate train gains momentum as the online reviews become more personally directed at the couple's behavior rather than the quality of the food. People find out that Samy has been facing deportation for not disclosing his criminal history outside of the country and that Amy had also served time for bank fraud. Kitchen Nightmares returns for an update where the couple say their business is doing well while at the same time saying the show portrayed them as more dysfunctional than they really are, leading to a decline in returning business. The two also appeared on the Dr. Phil show to share their side of the story. We catch up with the couple in 2021 where they disclose more of their battle with the show and online/real life trolls.
