In this video we learn how to represent square root of any given rational number geometrically. • We have taken the example of square root 3.5. • • It is to be noted that square root 3.5 does not mean square root 3.5 centimeters. So we can scale our diagram up or down to represent the value clearly on our copy. For this it is not necessary to do markings on number line at a gap of 1cm each, but whatever gap we take between our markings, to call it 1 unit in our diagram, it must always be same throughout the number line. The following are the necessary steps- • 1) First of all to draw square root x, make a base line AB of length x units. • 2) Then extend this line through B by 1 units and mark the point as C. • 3) Find the mid point of AC and mark it as D, and taking this point as center and AC as diameter, draw a semi circle. • 4) Draw a line perpendicular to AC through B, cutting the circle at point E. • 5) This BE is our required length ( square root x ) units, • 6) We can show it on the number line by considering B as origin and extending line AC through C and then extrapolating the point E on the number line. • In this video we also see the proof of this method. • With this lecture, we end this lecture series of Number Systems, Rational And Irrational numbers. More lectures in this series may be added if we found something worth to be explained by a video. • #HAPPY_LEARNING
