Modernization: the process in which a society becomes modern, shifting from pre-modern, traditional ways of thinking and doing towards modern and even post modern ways of being. Pre modern societies can be characterized by a focus on tradition, simpler technologies, collective orientation, hunter/gatherer or agricultural economy, and mechanical solidarity.
