This is a special case where I accepted a sample through the mail. It was a special request through my networks from a PWUD that I don't personally know, but have 3 degrees of separation from at most. With Drugs Data not currently accepting new samples and any other drug checking service not being readily accessible to someone not in a Drug User Union or a city with a drug checking program in the US, I figured I'd facilitate--especially since even if it were immediately mailed to UNC, it would take an unspecified amount of time. The turnaround is typically 2 weeks, but every drug checking program and their mama sends their samples to UNC so it could easily become longer (and has). This substance is still being sold and misrepresented by the vendor, so the user was seeking answers ASAP. • The substance was sold as a benzo--flualprazolam if I recall correctly. The benzo strip did not react positive to the substance, but the nitazene strip did. The FTIR displayed a list of closest matches being in the nitazene family, the top 2 non-repeated results being Protonitazene and Protonitazepyne. • Even with what is likely a raw powder, the hit quality is low. This is the same thing I noticed with testing Kush in Sierra Leone, but I assumed the extraction from the leaf was the reason. All the results are back from Sierra Leone, by the way, and every single one that was positive on the NTS contained metonitazene, protonitazene and/or protonitazepyne. Yes, some of them were in combination. The hit quality doesn't seem to be an indicator of the certainty that it's there in these cases--it's definitely there. But maybe the crappiness of the library matches makes it harder for us to [accurately] detect when these substances are actually mixed/buried in a pill, or other hard-to-test forms. • This only underscores that we should be paying more attention to nitazenes. It's not just this random drug killing off people in underdeveloped countries the outside world doesn't care about. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. • This sample among a few others from other testing I've been doing offsite (in different locations that from my home workspace) have been sent off for GCMS analysis. One of which is this sample, to get confirmation on which nitazene(s) are present. • Learn more about my Nitazene discovery here: https://www.talkingdrugs.org/under-th... • Disclaimer: Do not send me samples in the mail. Don't even ask. I don't have the capacity to be inundated with samples from random people, especially unpaid and samples that have not caused an overdose. Maybe someday I will be able to scale to that point, but I am beyond my capacity at this time. • Originally streamed 9/12/2024 • Follow @therebeleducationist for more of these live videos in the future • twitch.tv/therebeleducationist • Support this project by backing me on Open Collective: https://opencollective.com/rebel-harm...
