After losing the world championship on the last lap at Interlagos in 2008, 2009 would see a freak accident alter his career path forever. At the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2009 during qualifying, Felipe Massa would be with by a spring which fell of the Brawn of Rubens Barichello, knocking him unconscious and forcing him on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Felipe Massa's accident on that day could have been much worse, and forced changes to Formula 1.
