The canton of Thurgau is known for its fine agricultural produce. Particularly, apples, pears, fruits and vegetables are well-known. The many orchards in the canton are mainly used for the production of cider. Wine is produced in the Thur valley. • 2. Inhabited by lake dwellers (the Pfyn culture) in prehistoric times, it was later part of the Roman province of Raetia for several centuries until AD 450, after which it passed to the Alamanni, a Germanic tribe. From the 8th century on, it appeared as a political unit, extending as far west as the Reuss River and as far south as the foot of the Alps. • 3. Frauenfeld is the capital of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. • 4. Thurgau boasts a wealth of unique accommodation options, such as the Bubble Hotel. This shows how modern and innovative a rural region can be. • 5. The lush green hills on the southern banks of the lake are ideal for hikers and cyclists. Around 1,000 kilometres of hiking trails and 900 kilometres of cycling paths criss-cross the canton. • 6. The Kamelhof Olmerswil is located in the middle of the beautiful Thurgau in Neukirch. Here live - of course - camels, but also llamas, goats, koi, dogs, cats, ferrets and a small selection of reptiles. The farm offers various animal activities, such as camel and lama trekking, camel rides or races, and cuddling in the petting zoo. • 7.
