Deep coloured with rich brambly fruit, the palate is generous, spicy and soft, with flavours of black cherry and raspberry. • The nose has a lovely mix of fruit and autumn hedgerow in the glass. Black fruits tend to dominate the palate sweet fruited with a fleshy ripeness black cherry some damson plum a hint of cassis there is a lot happening on the palate lots of complexity. At the back it is lush sweet fruited yet has enough freshness to give a lighter feel on the long finish. Lamb leaps to mind but don’t overlook pork there is enough freshness. It is a wine for the richer poultry such as duck and guinea fowl a perfect partnership. In Spain where it's called Carinena. It also come under the name Mazuelo which is in the Rioja region. • It's one of the grapes that you can use as a sort of a small role in Rioja, some people do use it some people don't. • Ten percent of this wine is aged in oak just to give it a little bit more spiciness a little bit more structure to it and Carignan is a great variety that the best wines from this grape come from older vineyards so this is an old vines Carignan which gives it a little bit more complexity, a little bit more depth and makes a more interesting wine. • The one thing about Carignan is that can yield quite a lot of fruit and unless it's from really well sourced vineyards can make more bland wines. But he's done a great job with this Carignon. • Old Vines really interesting and we're going to taste this now. • So there's lots of brambly fruit, dark fruits, cherries on the nose. A little bit of spice which does come through from the ten percent that's oaked. • Let's taste this... • Oh it's really good, there's lots of fruit coming through but its all in balance. Some really nice depth, really nice flavour to that. Its not overly, it's not too full bodied but there's enough flavour and enough fruit character and spice there to work with food as well. • Really nice wine. The alcohol is a bit lower I think it's about twelve percent so it's a perfect red not only for throughout the year but also in the in the summertime if you want a wine that's not too high in alcohol. • Food wise, summertime perfect with barbecued meat and grilled anything grilled steaks, lamb chops anything like that will work really really nicely. • And in the wintertime a hearty casserole would be great. • So that's the Carignan from the De Chansac Carignan from Alain Grignon in the Languedoc in France. • If you have any questions or comments about that please to use the comment section below and if you want to be kept up to date with all the wines that were tasting then please do subscribe. • And next time we're going to be trying the Sauvignon Blanc from on the Ventisquero a producer in Chile which is lovely.
