The oxygen of an alcohol molecule attacks the carbon of the C=O group on the acid chloride. The Cl eventually leaves, and helps to remove the H from the alcohol. This leaves an -OR group attached where the -Cl was before, and so the result is an Ester. • Check me out: http://www.chemistnate.com
