Look at these pictures and tell me what you see! • I see an orange, the earth and a ball. This 3D shape is not like them all… • It’s a sphere! A 3D shape that can roll around and around and around! • Coming up is shape number two. Listen closely and you’ll find a clue! • I see a traffic cone, an ice cream cone and a party hat. Say it out loud, what 3D shape is that? • It’s a cone! A 3D shape with a flat circle face and a point on top. • Next up is shape number three. Look at the pictures and listen to me! • I see a soda can, a battery and a glue stick. Which 3D Shape is this? Take your pick! • It’s a cylinder. A 3D shape with a flat circle face on the top and the bottom. • Our last shape is next. Better pay attention or you’ll be perplexed! • I see a dice, some blocks and a box. This 3D shape really rocks! • It’s a cube. A 3D shape with 6 faces that are all squares. • No matter if they are gray or color, hidden or clear, you can see that 3D shapes are always here! • ———————————————— • Why is read aloud important? • The U.S. Department of Education Commission on Reading took into account over 10,000 studies and found that the most important activity for building the skills and background for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children. • At Mr. Corder’s Kid Books Read Aloud, I try and find the most exciting and interesting books for kids. Reading is one of the most important skills for children in preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade to develop (and in the higher grades of course).
