A vod from the Cooking Companions Thanksgiving stream on 11.25.21 where we love our friends so much. So...so...much. • My great-grandmother would hum old-world songs and cook me delicious foods. She taught me how to properly stuff pirohy (not too much...not too little). She showed me how to roll steaming, boiled cabbage and tuck it into itself to make halupki -- little pockets of flavor. She showed me how to properly fry chicken and made sure little Mad (and the rest of the family, for that matter) would never go hungry as long as they were in her home. • The thing I remember about her most, though, was while we would cook trays and trays of food, we would sit at kitchen table -- dirtied with flour and breadcrumbs and grains of rice -- and we would eat rye bread and butter. Because even a cook shouldn't be working while hungry. • Maybe Baba Yaga should have learned from their Slavic great-grandmother. • [Cooking Companions was completed, with the final three achievements found off-stream.
