Andrew Gregg of Gregg Valdés Associates gives a brief introduction to the new Capital Facility Information Handover Specification (CFIHOS). • Gregg Valdés Associates provides specialized engineering document and data management services for the oil and gas industry, from development of major capital projects to operations phase and brownfield projects; they and have delivered efficiency benefits which result from easy access to equipment tag data and linking to engineering and vendor documentation. • For more information on CFIHOS, view our on-demand webinar here: http://bit.ly/SolvingtheHandoverStruggle • *** • I guess my introduction to CFIOS went back 20 years to the standards that were developed called for the European process industries for handover of documentation from projects to operations. And these have evolved over time into the new CFIHOS standards. I think they’re a tremendous starting point for anyone in industry looking at what information do I need to hand over from project to operations. And it touches not just the document part of the handover, but very much goes into the sets of data, engineering data that are necessary for handover as well. I think the great thing about CFIHOS is it provides you with a framework, in terms of the documents and the data to be handed over from projects to operations. And it’s a very pragmatic view of the information to be handed over. I’ve often found looking at the ISO 15926 standards that it’s really difficult to see how to turn that into a practical way of working, whereas with CFIHOS you have a real clear definition in terms of what the documents and data to be handed over. For me it’s an evolution for the European Processes Guide which was published in 1998. It has been used with great success for handover of previous projects. And I think it’s an obvious place to start in terms of what has to be collated and handed over from projects to operations. What it doesn’t really get into is how you’re going to gather that information efficiently during the project. How does that fit in with the engineering process? But, ah, once that’s addressed I think you’ve got both an efficient way of gathering the information, you have the standards of the documentation and data to be handed over. And you also have now available quite sophisticated tools from Hexagon that allow you to assemble that information during the project and hand over, not just an end point, but be able to hand over in the phases that are necessary for operational purposes.
