VIRGIN SPRING ANALYSIS (1960)--ANATOMY AND SYMBOLISM OF A RAPE SCENE! (part 1) • In this video, I will analyze the Biblical metaphors in 'The Virgin Spring'. Ingmar Bergman, like others such as Kubrick, Fellini, Hitchcock, was still evolving artistically up until his death. His latter films, blessed with talents like Liv Ullman, Bibi Andersson, and Erland Josephson, delved into characters' psychological motives in relationships. His early films such as Wild Strawberries, The Seventh Seal, The Magician, and Sawdust and Tinsel explored universal religious and philosophical themes: the nature of good and evil, man's relationship to God, and death. The Virgin Spring falls into the latter category. The film is set in medieval Sweden as a young virgin girl named Karin is sent to deliver candles to the church but is deceived along the way and killed by 3 herdsman (2 men and 1 boy of around 10 or 12 years). Karin's father (Max Von Sydow) offers the herdsmen shelter in his home, not realizing that they killed his daughter. But when one of the herdsmen offers to sell the clothes they pulled off Karin's corpse to the girl's mother, all Hell breaks loose! • Playlist • Cinema Geeks Film Analysis And Movie ...
