5 - 9 Nov • Tickets: https://www.cft.org.uk/events/birdsong • There is nothing more than to love and be loved. • Sebastian Faulks’s epic tale of love and loss returns to the stage in a brand-new production marking the 30th anniversary of the international best-selling novel. • In pre-war France, a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford, embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle Azaire that turns their world upside down. As the war breaks out over the idyll of his former life, Stephen must lead his men through the carnage of the Battle of the Somme and through the sprawling tunnels that lie deep underground. Faced with the unprecedented horror of the war Stephen clings to the memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him. • A mesmerising story of love and courage, set both before and during the Great War. Once seen never forgotten. • Adapted by Rachel Wagstaff (The Girl on the Train, Flowers for Mrs Harris) and produced by the award-winning Original Theatre. Starring award-winning actor Max Bowden (EastEnders), James Esler (Litvinenko) and Charlie Russell (The Goes Wrong Show, BBC’s And Then There Were None). • Presented by Original Theatre and JAS Theatricals in association with Joshua Beaumont Huw Allen, Tiny Giant Entertainment, Birdsong Productions and Wiltshire Creative. • See more of CFT here: • Website: https://cft.link/cft • CFT YouTube: https://cft.link/youtube • Facebook: https://cft.link/facebook • Instagram: https://cft.link/instagram • CFT strives to bring people - artists and those who support artistic work - together in an environment where creativity can flourish. Alongside our tradition of producing great plays with great actors, CFT seeks out innovative and exciting voices in order to explore newer forms of theatre, alongside our traditional repertoire. • We are committed to supporting individuals in developing their creative, artistic, personal and social skills alongside a life-long enjoyment and appreciation of the arts. Our ambition is to promote inclusivity, accessibility and diversity, and to ensure rich opportunities for all people, regardless of age, culture and social background, to feel inspired, challenged and excited by the arts. • Situated in a cathedral city in West Sussex between the South Downs and the sea, the Festival Theatre’s bold thrust stage design makes it one of England’s most striking playhouses; our studio theatre, the Minerva Theatre, sits nearby.
