February 20th, 1824 William Buckland, a geology professor at Oxford University, presented Megalosaurus to the world. Named from a jaw, limb material, and vertebrae, the animal shocked the world with its existence as nothing like it had been seen before. It was announced before the word dinosaur even existed!
