Thirteen (2003) In A Nutshell | Movie Review • A serious movie about serious issues but is it seriously good? • Written by Catherine Hardwicke and Nikki Reed, the director and that one girl from Twilight. Thirteen is about an innocent girl who meets a messed up girl, they become friends and then her innocence goes away faster than a Rosanne Revival. • So apparently Nikki Reed and I are the same age and she wrote and starred in a movie when she was 13. That's cool, you know what I was doing when I was 13? Playing video games and masturbating. Some things never change. • I really liked the look of this movie, it had a documentary type feel to it which added some realism. It reminded me of Kids, if you haven't seen Kids, it's pretty fucked up. • The movie starts off with our main character Tracy and her evil manipulative sociopathic friend, Evie high off their asses and starting a fight club. Then it we go to back some months before to see how Tracy got so bad. • • IMDB Synopsis • At the edge of adolescence, Tracy is a smart straight-A student--if not a little naive (it seems...she smokes and she cuts to alleviate the emotional pain she suffers from having a broken home and hating her mom's boyfriend, Brady.) When she befriends Evie, the most popular and beautiful girl in school, Evie leads Tracy down a path of sex, drugs and petty crime (like stealing money from purses and from stores). As Tracy transforms herself and her identity, her world becomes a boiling, emotional cauldron fueled by new tensions between her and her mother--as well as, teachers and old friends.
