I have read hundreds of GI-Mapping Tests from acne patients, and although candida has been present in many test results, it is not always there. What does this mean? Is candida a root cause of acne? • A candida overgrowth can manifest in many different ways: brain fog, toenail fungus, yeast infections, sinus infections, dandruff, ringworm, tinea versicolour, and digestive issues. And although it is often present in women with acne, because many women with acne have taken multiple courses of antibiotics and been on the birth control pill for years, it is not usually the direct cause of acne. • BUT – candida can absolutely contribute to worsening acne. When there is a gram-negative bacterial overgrowth in the gut, which is often the case with acne patients, LPS released from this bacteria can worsen candida. This can aggravate inflammation in the body, which can worsen acne. • Bottom line - it is important to identify if you have an imbalanced microbiome, usually by doing a GI-Mapping Test, and if candida is present, be sure to treat candida along with any other bacterial imbalances that are present. • Need help to solve your acne?
