St. Joseph Parish began to offer Mass in Portuguese. An engaged community attended service, carried old traditions, and celebrated festas for the patron saints. Beautiful processions took place around the city block that concluded at the church. Spectators would behold the wonderful events and receptions, with large gatherings followed at the parish hall. • An offshoot had assembled from the larger community out west. They stayed connected by keeping close with their friends and using a variety of emerging media outlets that catered to the Canaguês. Free newspapers were distributed while new radio programs hit the airwaves, mostly stationed from that primary hub. Access to information was widening as multiculturalism was embraced in the city, more so than ever before.
