Walk is a symmetrical four-beat gait; each foot strikes the ground individually. • Amble is similar to the walk, except the legs on the left side move in unison, and the legs on the right side of the body move in unison. • Pace is a symmetrical two-beat gait; two feet strike the ground at a time. The left legs move in unison, and the right legs move in unison. • Trot is a symmetrical two-beat gait. The diagonal limbs move as a pair. This is the most efficient gait for covering distance. • Canter is an asymmetrical three-beat gait. Dogs can be either on the left lead or the right lead, similar to horses. • Gallop is a four-beat gait. It is the fastest gait but is the most fatiguing. Dogs get suspension (all four feet off the ground) when they gallop. • http://seespotrunrehab.com
