Be specific. • (Use the idea of doubling your income in one year if you can't think of anything) • Problem Solving Mindset - 'I Can't' vs. 'How Can I?' • I want you to take on a new task. I'm going to ask you to walk from one end of the country to The other end of the country. when I said this sentence what is your first reaction? many of us would immediately jump to I can't walk across the country because.... and when you think this what does that do to your mind? well immediately you have built a belief system that says you're incapable of accomplishing the task. instead of coming up with ideas you immediately start coming up with reasons why you can't. well I have bad feet, I'm out of shape, I don't want to do that that doesn't make any sense, that's just way too far for anyone to go. • What if instead of I can't we looked at it from a how can I perspective? let's use the same example instead of I can't walk across the country were now framing it as how can I walk across the country. Instead of coming up with reasons to stop you from accomplishing the task your brain will now focus on things that you need to do to make it happen. for example when I start thinking about how can I walk across the country I start thinking about logistics. What kind of shoes do I need where am I going to sleep how long will it take and any factor that comes up normally that would prevent me from moving forward when I'm in that I can't face I actually start looking for a solution right so if I'm thinking well I can't walk across the country because I don't even know where to go instead I think how can I figure out where to go and then that will start leading me to a solution. are you starting to see the power of changing your mindset even slightly. • This piece of information fundamentally change the way that I looked at the world. It gave me a new sense that everything was within my grasp and able to be accomplished. Now the other thing that's nice about this is that it helps you decide for when things are worth pursuing. I think that's where a lot of the concern comes and why many of us are stuck in this I can't mindset is because it's not that we can't if more that we don't want to and we don't see the value in pursuing it. So for example if I say I want to walk across the country and your natural sponses I can't more likely than not what it really means is that you don't want to but if we're looking at it from a how can I mindset we can actually figure out why we don't want to do that. So for me if I think about that an essay how can I cross the country and let's say that I need extra physical training I think I don't really want to do that training so for that reason I'm not interested in walking across the country. This way of thinking is a lot more empowering than simply saying I can't and shutting off your ideas. It's also easier to communicate with other people why you don't want to do tasks as opposed to just saying I can't which will leave many people frustrated. • Now the even more powerful piece of this way of thinking is that it enables you to do things that you thought you couldn't do. I spent a long time thinking about building a business and every obstacle I would run into I would say oh I can't do that because of this. however once I became familiar with this new concept of how can I instead of I can't suddenly I was in power to accomplish a lot more. One of my biggest hurdles was I can't create a website I don't have any training. Then when I establish this framework for thinking I change to how can I build a website boy turns out especially with Google there is a plethora of information on how to accomplish just about anything. now I wouldn't say that I learned everything at once however I was able to identify my overall goal and then start breaking that into pieces by asking how can I add a roadblock. How can I buy a domain name how can I build a website how can I learn to code and once I applied this I was able to find all the resources I needed to do it. • There are so many opportunities that we each have to improve and accomplish things and often we are the one to stop ourselves before we even have a chance to try. This is just one mindset change you can make to significantly increase your chances at happiness. • I encourage you to participate and build our community!
