Multi Sensory Intervention for Pediatric OTs with Activity Analysis 🎉✨ • Sensory Writing Bin Activity: • 🌀The child will be presented with a sensory bin consisting of sand or rice and plastic 1.5-inch alphabet letters that consist of their name hidden in the bin. • 🌀The child will be standing at a chest-high table with the sensory bin in front of them at arm’s reach. • 🌀The child will need to visually scan and search through the sensory bin to locate the alphabet letters of their name and retrieve these letters from the bin. • 🌀This activity also requires bilateral coordination in order for the child to stabilize the bin with one hand while simultaneously using the opposite hand to adjust, grip and manipulate alphabet letters out and over the bin. • 🌀Once retrieved, the child will place the alphabet letter on a flat surface in the correct sequence of their name. • 🌀Once they have spelled out their name correctly using the alphabet letters, the child will use this as a model for a handwriting prompt. • 🌀The child will be asked to sit and use the plastic alphabet letters as a model for writing their name on a 1-inch dashed line paper. • Evidence to support intervention🔎: Dysgraphia and delays in functional living skills are well documented in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (Alaniz et al., 2015). Children with ASD often have poor handwriting legibility which hinders their academic performance (Alaniz et al., 2015). Handwriting interventions for children with ASD such as this activity often include blending sensory feedback, direct handwriting instruction, and fine motor development into a comprehensive handwriting plan (Alaniz et al., 2015). Modeling, prompting, and reinforcement are also used across domains for children with ASD making this activity an evidence based intervention (O’Brien Kuhaneck, 2020). • 🎥 Subscribe Turn on Notifications for more patient-centered activities WITH documentation examples @thenoteninjas • ⭐ For those PTs and OTs looking to streamline their documentation and enhanced patient care sign up for our FREE Skilled Care and Documentation Cheat Sheet here: https://thenoteninjas.mykajabi.com/sk... • • *This content is provided for educational purposes only and is intended to support informed professional judgment and practice.
