What is the Peer Instruction? Peer Instruction is an evidence-based, interactive teaching method popularized by Harvard Professor Eric Mazur in the early 1990s. It is student-centered and utilizes active learning strategies to engage students in problem-solving, discussion, and group work. • The three stages of the Peer Instruction method: • 1) The teacher poses a question or problem to the class, and students work individually to think about and answer the question. • 2) Students then work in small groups to discuss their answers and try to reach a consensus. • 3) The teacher then leads a whole-class discussion to clarify any misconceptions and to build on the ideas generated in the small groups. • This method allows the teacher to assess students' understanding in real-time and to provide targeted feedback to individuals or groups. Peer Instruction promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. • #PeerInstruction #EricMazur #PeerInstructionMethod • In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education.
