In this conversation, Borja Vilallonga (aka the Modern Platonist) and his guest, Ben Teitelbaum, discuss the state of Traditionalism today through the dissection and analysis of the different power figures affiliated with or influenced by the Traditionalist school, like Steve Bannon, Aleksandr Dugin or Olavo de Carvalho. Dr. Teitelbaum is the author of the 2020 ‘War for Eternity. The Return of Traditionalism and the Rise of the Populist Right.’ While the historical figures of the Traditionalist school (René Guénon, Julius Evola and Frithjof Schuon) avoided active politics, a new generation of Traditionalist thinkers has been deeply involved in shaping new geopolitical concepts as well as the populist wave of the 2010s that brought figures like Donald Trump or Jair Bolsonaro to power in the United States and Brazil respectively. While assessing similarities and differences between the old and the new Traditionalists, we explore the spiritual ideas that have fueled this school in the first decades of the 21st century. • #traditionalism #spirituality #stevebannon • Dr. Benjamin Teitelbaum is Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology and International Affairs at the University of Colorado Boulder.
