The new Datsun redi-GO is here to take on the mighty Maruti Suzuki Alto and the favoured Renault Kwid. But does it really have what it takes to take on India’s most popular cars? We take the Redi-Go for a spin in Kolkata, the City of Joy, to find out if this entry-level hatchback can bring joy to its buyers as well. In fact, even the power and torque figures are identical to the Kwid’s – 54PS and 72Nm respectively. • If you are the kind of driver that doesn’t like to drive fast and just wants to do urban commutes at a relaxed pace, the redi-GO may suit you well. With a claimed mileage of 25.17kmpl, the redi-GO is also quite frugal though real-world figures may differ. • Overall, the redi-Go will appeal a lot to first-time car buyers looking for a stylish hatchback on a budget.
