http://julianwalkeryoga.com/workshops... • The piriformis muscle sits atop the thick sciatic nerve that passes from your low back down to your lower leg. • When it is in chronic contraction it can cause referred pain down the back of the leg and fixate the sacrum in a stiff and sore position. • The muscle runs at an angle across from the sacrum to the thigh bone and is deep in the buttock underneath the three layers of gluteal muscles. • My clinical experience tells me it often holds unexpressed anger or fear in chronic contraction. • We'll explore the piriformis and more at my Grounding Pleasure, on Sunday January 27th. • What do Sexuality, Sensuality, Standing your Ground, Low bAck and Hips all have in common? • In symbolic terms, the first chakra (in your hips) has to do with being at home in your body, comfortable in your skin - grounded, able to stand up for yourself. • The second chakra (in your low back/belly) has to do with sensuality, sexuality, trust and intimacy. • In anatomical terms focusing onthe first two chakras means that we work with the legs, low back, hips and core as we explore the mind/body connection.
