I was at the Last Supper with our Lord and I can describe it to you. To remember how God brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, Jewish people have a celebration every year called the Passover. • • To prepare, Jesus sent John and me to find a room where we could observe the Passover. Jesus told us to go to the city and find a man carrying a pitcher of water. This was an unusual thing to see, because in these days, only women carry water. This man brought us to an upper room of a house. Everything Jesus said came true and now we had a place to meet. • That night, as all 13 of us sat around the table, Jesus took some bread and broke it into pieces, saying, ...This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. (NIV Luke 22:19) • Of course the bread was not the ACTUAL body of Jesus; it was a symbol of his humanity which was broken, or sacrificed for us. • Then Jesus took a cup of wine and said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” (NIV 22:20) • Of course the wine was not the ACTUAL blood of Jesus; it was a symbol of his life being poured out, or sacrificed for us. • Jesus used these items as symbols to remember the importance of the sacrifice he would soon make. • I’m embarrassed to say that we began to argue amongst ourselves over who would be the greatest in God’s Kingdom. When Jesus heard us, he showed us a lesson of humility. He knelt down on the floor with a bowl of water and a towel and washed our feet. I felt very uncomfortable seeing my Savior performing such a humble act, so I told him he would never wash my feet. (John 13:8 NIV) Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” • Jesus did not mean that I could not follow him if my feet were unclean.
