Laryngitis is often caused by viral infections, particularly those associated with the common cold or flu. The viruses can inflame the vocal cords, leading to hoarseness or loss of voice. Though less common than viral infections, bacterial infections can also cause laryngitis. Conditions like diphtheria or streptococcal infections can lead to severe inflammation of the larynx. Excessive use of the voice, such as shouting, singing, or speaking loudly for extended periods, can strain the vocal cords, causing irritation and inflammation. Exposure to irritants like smoke, pollution, alcohol, or chemical fumes can lead to laryngitis. This includes secondhand smoke or working in environments with harmful substances. One of the most effective treatments is giving the vocal cords time to heal by avoiding speaking or whispering too much. Drinking plenty of fluids can keep the throat moist and promote healing. Warm teas with honey or steam inhalation can also soothe irritation. Staying away from smoking, alcohol, and other environmental irritants helps in reducing inflammation of the larynx. If laryngitis is caused by bacterial infections, antibiotics may be prescribed. In cases of severe inflammation, corticosteroids may be recommended to reduce swelling. If the laryngitis is due to acid reflux, GERD medications like antacids or proton pump inhibitors may be used. Similarly, addressing allergies or chronic sinusitis with antihistamines or decongestants can help. • #reasonsforlaryngitisdisease #dranandkumar #naveenreddykankanala #kaminenihospitals #medplusonetv • watch more Dr. C Anand Kumar videos on :    • Dr. C. Anand Kumar l Consultant ENT, ...   • Also, Watch More Valuable and Authentic Health Information in Telugu • 👉   / medplusonetv   • 🚑MEDICAL DISCLAIMER • This content is for educational and informational purposes only.
