We hate them much as you do! • In this video, we are going to discuss Medicare and in-home physical therapy. I personally had the opportunity to use the in-home treatment due to my recent back surgery. I do recommend it if it is suggested by your doctor! • Don’t let the inclement weather or a lack of parking availability or transportation keep you from receiving quality physical therapy. Take the next step to improving your physical health. • There are many places where you can go to receive physical therapy. However, there are also many challenges you can face when attempting to go to a location. With in-home physical therapy, your therapist can provide individualized, one-on-one skilled physical therapy in the convenience of your home. You will no longer need to worry about transportation to or from a facility or waste time looking for parking. • Another benefit of in-home physical therapy is that the therapists can provide a home safety assessment you. Why is this important you might ask? As we advance in age, in addition to factors such as poor flexibility, poor strength, impaired vision and impaired mobility, there are external factors that can affect our balance and lead to an increased risk of falls. • These factors include poor lighting, area rugs and loose power cords. Your physical therapist will assess these risk factors and provide education to you on how to improve safety in your home. • Your therapist will recognize that you are an individual and will provide individualized, exercise programs accordingly. Treatment sessions are one-to-one, 45- to 60-minute sessions with a licensed physical therapist. Therapists work with you to establish individualized goals, focusing on improving function and quality of life. • Services provided by your therapist are reimbursed by Medicare Part B and your Medicare supplement insurance covers the co-pay. Your therapist is aware that the insurance aspect can be overwhelming and, therefore, will help you navigate through the Medicare process. • As I mentioned earlier I personally had the opportunity to use the in-home therapy due to my recent back surgery. I had the services of a nurse and therapist. I found the therapist loves what she does and she did create great results and helped with my recovery. And, yes, sometimes it was challenging. But, if you can get in-home therapy take the next step and just do it! • What can you do now? Simple!
