The PKM, modernised and improved version of the PK (Pulemyot Kalashnikova), was developed by the great Mikhail Kalashnikov and put into service in 1969. • It is based on the Kalashnikov mechanism, so it's no surprise it uses a very similar bolt and carrier design to the AKM.
