The gaiety and vibrancy of the colourful Jazz Age is captured by concentrating on her most prolific and successful period, 1928 to 1936. As one of the most flamboyant designers of the Art Deco era, Clarice Cliff's vibrant designs shout out from every huge page, mostly with a black background, to make the colourful flowers, trees, cottages, geometric shapes, castellated circles, Beach Ball, Café au Lait with examples including Red Roofs, Bobbins, Berries, Trees and House, Summer House and Autumn. Also used to decorate ware, which had a small simple floral or fruit motif added, here are the designs Acorn, Brookfields, Blue Firs, Blue W, and of course the popular Bizarre range of geometric designs incorporate brush outlined diamonds or triangles, generally randomly coloured and issued only on old Newport Pottery and Wilkinson's ware, before Clarice designed her own shapes. The name was discontinued in 1936 and prices are very variable, depending on the colours used and condition is paramount. Price ranges are given in one £ to multiple £££ to give an indication of their value. Arranged A-Z and with an index of examples not listed from Acacia to Yuan, two cottages and two trees painted freehand as a motif generally on a green glazed background. A rare find and one for every collector at every level. 24cm x 32cm, 293 illus in full colour and seven in black and white • FACEBOOK: @bibliophilebargainbooks • TWITTER: @AnnieBookReview • INSTAGRAM: bibliophileannie
