Hay on Wye, known for its literary festival, is a town that lies mostly in Wales but where you could, technically, have one foot in one country and one in another. It is very much a book-lovers paradise with countless bookshops stocked with treasures that would be hard to find almost anywhere else. • It was fairly quiet on this day, toward the end of May during the festival, it shall probably attract visitors of about 80,000. But on this chilly afternoon, only a few people were visiting these streets. • It's not a large town by any means but it has its own castle and more nightlife than one might normally expect in a town this size. But, mostly, it is just a rural town lying on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
