Also called arm-hand vibration syndrome, vibration syndrome is a painful condition of the fingers, hand and arm that usually results from using vibrating tools. The symptoms are like for carpal tunnel syndrome, but the two are very different conditions. Mostly, people who are at risk typically use power tools such as electric drills, jackhammers, and power saws for prolonged periods. • Sensations you feel with vibration syndrome usually include tingling in the hand and fingers (pins and needles), numbness, loss of finger sensation, loss of dexterity, and waking up while trying to sleep due to painful hands and fingers. When the condition worsens, symptoms of vibration syndrome include periods of finger pain that lasts several minutes. During these episodes your finger(s) can turn white. These attacks may increase in length and frequency with continued exposure to vibration, smoking, and cold temperatures. • Unfortunately, vibration syndrome is NOT reversible (unlike carpal tunnel). There is no cure and its treatment is very difficult. The BEST hope for those with vibration syndrome is that it does not get worse. For those at high risk of developing it, the key is prevention. For those who use power tools, the NIOSH estimates that the workplace prevalence of vibration syndrome in the USA is between 20-50%. That means 2.5 million Americans are exposed daily to the likelihood of developing vibration syndrome from power tools. • And because there is no treatment for vibration syndrome, much of the focus has been on prevention. Most vibration prone workers are advised to wear thick protective gloves as a cushion against the vibrations. Many physical and massage therapists agree that hand, wrist and arm massage can stop the progression of vibration syndrome. In fact, massage may actually reverse vibration syndrome -- but only if used in the earliest stages. If an at-risk person (e.g., a power tool user) feels numbness and tingling in the hands and fingers, then the person must stop using the power tools immediately. Then, vigorous massage should be used on a daily basis. • If you have carpal tunnel or tendonitis instead of vibration syndrome, your symptoms can recover completely in a few weeks. The best way to achieve this is to use a traction brace, like the CPR. Doing so will almost certainly eliminate symptoms, because the traction relieves pressure inside your wrist joint. The CPR is highly effective in relieving the pain, numbness and tingling of tendonitis. It’s affordable therapy that relieves symptoms fast – and it’s the only traction brace that gives you this treatment. • Patients hail the CPR as the best and most effective remedy available. • http://www.CarpalPainRelief.com
