The original name for Empi on Okinawa was Wansu, with master Gichin Funakoshi changing the name when karate travelled to Japan. • Empi also known as Enpi is normally used as a brown belt intermediate kata in most Shotokan karate dojo. There are slight variations from dojo to dojo, but on the whole Empi stays 95% the same wherever you go in the shotokan world.
